• BFS — Backward-Facing Step. Flow over a sudden expansion, creates a recirculation bubble.
• Bingham — Viscoplastic fluid model: flows only above a yield stress tau_y. Parameter Bn = tau_yH/(mu_pU).
• CFD — Computational Fluid Dynamics.
• CLA — Contributor License Agreement. Terms under which contributions are accepted.
• DNS — Direct Numerical Simulation. Resolves all turbulent scales without modeling.
• DOI — Digital Object Identifier. A permanent link to a publication.
• FSI — Fluid-Structure Interaction. Coupled fluid and solid mechanics.
• GCI — Grid Convergence Index. A uniform method for reporting grid refinement studies (Roache, 1994).
• JHTDB — Johns Hopkins Turbulence Database. Public DNS/LES data repository.
• LES — Large Eddy Simulation. Resolves large turbulent scales, models small ones.
• M — Mach number. Ratio of flow velocity to speed of sound.
• MMS — Method of Manufactured Solutions. Code verification technique: an artificial solution with known source terms is imposed, and the solver is tested on whether it recovers the solution.
• NASA TMR — NASA Turbulence Modeling Resource. Public validation database for turbulence models.
• NS — Navier-Stokes equations. Governing equations of fluid motion.
• Oldroyd-B — Viscoelastic constitutive model for dilute polymer solutions. Parameters: We (Weissenberg number), beta (viscosity ratio).
• PIV — Particle Image Velocimetry. Experimental technique for measuring velocity fields.

• Power-law (Ostwald-de Waele) — Non-Newtonian model: mu_eff = K·

• Ra — Rayleigh number. Dimensionless parameter for natural convection: Ra = g·beta·DeltaT·L^3/(nu·alpha).
• RANS — Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes. Turbulence modeling approach using time-averaged equations.
• Re — Reynolds number. Ratio of inertial to viscous forces.
• Re_tau — Friction Reynolds number. Re_tau = u_tau·h/nu for channel flow.
• St — Strouhal number. Dimensionless frequency: St = f·D/U for cylinder shedding.
• TBL — Turbulent Boundary Layer.
• V&V — Verification & Validation. Verification checks if equations are solved correctly; validation checks if the right physics is modeled.
• VIV — Vortex-Induced Vibration. Oscillation of a bluff body due to vortex shedding lock-in.
• We — Weissenberg number. Ratio of elastic to viscous forces in viscoelastic flows: We = λ·U/L.
